Astan 21, 2005 – Interview with Schmelz Cure
The words “Schmelz Cure” have opposite meanings. The pain of the soul that every human has (Schmelz) and the healing (Cure). The concept of the band is to express these feelings that everyone has. Another active aspect of the concept is “chuudoku” (poisoning, searching). Through the “music”, “poetryworld” and “activity” of the band, will not only the listeners but also the band itself get addicted.
When and why have you started to make music?
Hibari: Just a short time. Because I can create something myself.
REy: Since I’ve been young. It heals the heart.
Rin: Just for a short time. When I visited a concert for the first time, it made a big impression on me.
Which Japanese food is like the music from Schmelz Cure and why?
Rin: Hmmm…
Hibari: Sea-hedgehog. If you don’t break the hard shell, you can’t eat the delicious inside. You lose your prejudice against things that you haven’t eaten before. (laughs)
REy: Changing food… I don’t need consulting*.
*[Probably a word play with the verb kawaru: "to change" (changing food) and the belonging nomen kawari: "replacement" but also "consult".]
Do your instruments have names or are they nameless tools?
Hibari: The voice… is named Hibari. (laughs)
REy: Mine is named purper-red “adeshiko”. (Nadishiko = Carnation)
Rin: Mine is named “Kû”.
What are the lyrics of Schmelz Cure about?
Hibari: We express the human emotions, that every human has and that are everywhere.
What kind of bad habits do the band members have?
Hibari: REy mocks Rin. Rin doesn’t write in the blog (web-diary) and dawdles about.
REy: Hibari is a secret door and sleeps long. Rin always comes too late.
Rin: Hibari sleeps too much. REy is violent. (gasps)
Which musicians have had an influence on you?
Hibari: That’s different for every member. When it comes to me, it are the expressfull Kyo (Dir en grey), Kiyoharu, Shiina Ringo and others…
REy: Hide and Mana.
Rin: L’Arc-en-Ciel. They have great melodies and energy. I really like that.
If you would ask the female fans, which member would be the most loved?
Hibari: Rin.
REy and Rin: Hibari.
If you wouldn’t be a musician, what would you’ve become?
Hibari: I’ve only accidentily ended up in music. I just wanted to create something myself, didn’t matter what. In the mean time I don’t think like that anymore.
REy: Hairdresser. Or something with fashion.
Rin: A doctor!
Favourite colour?
Hibari: Red.
REy: Purpur-red like a rose.
Rin: White, black.
Favourite food?
Hibari: Curry-rice.
REy: Vegetables.
Rin: Fish, sweet things.
Favourite music?
Hibari: Japanese Kayôkyoku*, 80er Jahre.
REy: Schmelz Cure.
Rin: Classical and rock.
