Astan 21, 2005 – Interview with BLOOD

Because of the Astan Y Mania Festivals we got the opportunity for an interview with Kiwamu and Fu-Ki from the Japanese goth band Blood.

Please tell me something about your Mexico tour.
Kiwamu: Over 6200 visitors came to our 4 shows in Mexico. Our agent Andres over there arranged and organised everything very well. It was fantastic.

And the Europe tour?
Kiwamu: JaME and especially Reyep have really helped us. He has organised us 3 shows, and with that also came the Astan Y Mania show. This Europe tour has brought us a lot of pleasure. All the shows were very well organised, and thus we really want to come back.
Fu-Ki: The presents and the birthdayserenade at the Astan Y mania tour really made me happy.

Please tell me something about your clothes. Your stage clothes look very extravagant.
Kiwamu: R-ZERO is one of the brands that makes our clothes. The boss of R-ZERO visited our shows and wanted to work with us. That’s how it happened and we’re very happy about it.

What does such a stage outfit cost?
Kiwamu: Everything together about 37000 euro’s.

Please name a few records that you like to hear.
Kiwamu: There’s a record company of which I own almost all cd’s: 4-AD.
Fu-Ki: H.I.M.’s “Love Metal”, DREAM THEATER’s “Images and Words”, CRADLE OF FILTH’s “Damnation and the Day”.

Do your instruments have names? What does Kaede call his bass?
Kiwamu: Oh, is that usual in Germany? Typical. No, we didn’t name our instruments.

What does Fu-Ki sing about?
Kiwamu: The most important theme are vampires and everything that has to do with that.
Fu-Ki: I write about the tragedy of being a vampire. How you become a vampire, what you have to go through and what you experience.

How does such a piece develop?
Kiwamu: First I write the melody and think about the arrangement. Then I play it for Fu-Ki. After that we rearrange the piece together. 95% of all pieces come from me.

What have you seen in the cinema recently?
Kiwamu: “The Passion of the Christ”. Japanese people don’t know a lot about Christianity. So I have tried to learn more through the movie. When I know the background I can better understand the meaning.
Fu-Ki: Haunted Mansion.

What was your last record: bought or stolen?
Kiwamu: I have bought the last Garbage album and a Lacrimosa album. I like to hear both old and modern music. I think every musician should do that. I don’t steal cd’s, or anything else.
Fu-Ki: Sentenced “The Funeral Album”.

What is the decisive difference between Japanese and German girls?
Kiwamu: To be able to answer that I should know German girls better. I can only describe the appearance. Most Japanese girls are very thin. German girls aren’t so thin.
Fu-Ki: European girls smell differently. I can’t explain it. They somehow just smell different.

What is the difference between American and European fans?
Fu-Ki: I think the Americans like loud music more and European fans like the attractive songs better.

Any memories of German food?
Fu-Ki: In Germany I’ve eaten pommes frites with mayonnaise, but that isn’t very German?

Name 3 typical Japanese things that you don’t want to miss?
Fu-Ki: Sake, ongaku, neru.

Last words?
Kiwamu: This year we will release our mini-album “VENGEANCE for BLOOD 3″ and with that we’ll end the concept trilogy. I would be happy if the readers would also be interested in “VENGEANCE for BLOOD 3″.
Fu-Ki: We have had a lot of fun in Europe, we love the fans there and will come back next year. Please wait for us.
